Think winter means winterizing your boat and putting away your fishing rods? Not so fast…. the warmer temperatures of Kentucky keep us busy with great fishing all year long!
Kentucky is a water wonderland and has more miles of running water than any other state except Alaska! The numerous rivers and water impoundments provide 1,100 commercially navigable miles (1,770 kilometers). With that much water, Kentucky can be called the mecca of fishing and an angler’s paradise – all year long! Of all the beautiful waterways in Kentucky, Lake Cumberland is one of the largest and most popular fishing destinations. With over 1,200 miles of shoreline (63,000 surface acres), as well as the many coves and private islands, Lake Cumberland fishing is one of the best Kentucky lakes to catch a trophy fish.
Fishing in Kentucky is great year round, and there are many fishing tournaments that you can enjoy. A very popular Kentucky fishing tournament is the Lucas Oil Southern Kentucky Winter Fishing Open – coming twice this winter to Lake Cumberland at Halcomb’s Landing.
