One of the best attractions in Jamestown, Kentucky is the Lake Cumberland State Resort Park , well known as Kentucky’s #1 State Resort Park. At this very popular park visitors can enjoy the gorgeous new Lodge Rooms & Cabins or choose a beautiful wooded campsite. Lake Cumberland State Resort Park amenities include miniature golf, horseback riding, hiking trails, geocaching, an lovely indoor pool, a game room overlooking the lake, loads of planned activities and the largest marina in the state of Kentucky renting everything from paddle boards & kayaks to speed boats, pontoons, jet skis and more!
Just down the road from the Lake Cumberland State Resort Park is the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery and the Wolf Creek Dam. The Fish Hatchery is a great place in rain or shine & has an indoor education center complete with large scale aquariums & a walk through Kentucky cave – see what lives under the lake and in our caves! Outside guests can walk through the fish runs and see the trout. For those that want additional outdoor adventure you can fish the Hatchery Creek (the only trout stream of its kind in the US!) or hike the lovely trails that meander along the stream and through the Hatchery property.
Mini Indy Go Kart Track in Jamestown is a favorite spot for adults and children alike! The Go Kart Track boasts a 940′ long track with single karts and 2 double karts. Drivers must be 54″ tall to drive. Mini Indy Go Kart Track also has a wonderful 18 hole Mini Golf Course & Indoor Video arcade.
For those visitors that are looking for a cultural experience, the Historic Star Theater in Russell Springs would be the perfect spot! This lovely 1940’s era movie house has been renovated into a beautiful community theater for live stage performances through out the year. A full schedule can be found at www.startheater.org .
On a rainy day you might want to take in a movie at the Key Twin Cinema in Russell Springs. This 2-theater gem has character and charm, but also updated to plan the newest digital movies. Another great idea on a rainy day would be to take the family bowling at Laker Lanes Bowling Alley (just down from the movie theater).
If you are looking for a public swimming pool, the Russell Springs City Park has one of the most beautiful pools around as well as brand new playgrounds, picnic areas, lovely paved hiking trails, a “Bark Park”, tennis courts, and Skate Park.
A hidden gem in Jamestown is the Creelsboro Natural Arch (also called “The Rockhouse”). The Rockhouse is one of the few natural arches that was carved from limestone and was used by Native Americans while hunting & fishing in the area during the summer. These same Native Americans buried their dead on top of the Rockhouse. The arch was rediscovered in 1792 and was named “Rockhouse” in 1812 when local settlers began using it as a meeting place and picnic spot. The Natural Arch is located along KY 379, about 3 miles west of Creelsboro.
If you want to get out on the lake, be sure to rent a small boat from one of our many Lake Cumberland Marinas. While you’re visiting the marinas, be sure to grab a bite to eat at the waterfront restaurant.
Lakewood Country Club is a semi private Lake Cumberland golf club in Russell Springs that has 18 holes, tennis courts, swimming pool, snack bar and a driving range. $30 green fees for guests living outside of Russell County. Tourists welcome!
