Lake Cumberland is the perfect place for star gazing – from the deck of your private or rental houseboat, the porch of your Lake Cumberland cabin or your favorite spot in the Lake Cumberland State Resort Park.
Celestial bodies are not the only kind of star you can expect to experience near Lake Cumberland! While you are planning your Lake Cumberland vacation, and considering the many Lake Cumberland area attractions and things to do, be sure to include an evening at the Historic Star Theater in Russell Springs.
The Star Theater originally opened in 1949, serving more than three decades as a movie theater, then closing for many years.
In 1994, after many years of planning and extensive remodeling, the Russell County Arts Council reopened the Star Theater as a performing arts center and it has become a popular Lake Cumberland area attraction. Since its re-opening, the Star Theater has featured over a hundred performances ranging from popular plays to dance and musical performances, including the Lake Cumberland Choral Society, and even magic shows. The Star Theater was the locale for a sold-out performance of country music star Steve Wariner, who grew up in Russell Springs, Kentucky.
Whether your preference is comedy, Broadway musicals, or dramas, the Star Theater is sure to provide excellent entertainment showcasing local performing arts professionals.
