This June, Lake Cumberland in Russell County will welcome thousands of student anglers, coaches, families and fishing fans from across the country for one of the biggest events in competitive youth fishing.

The 17th annual High School Fishing World Finals & National Championship will take place June 23-27, bringing national attention and incredible energy to the shores of Lake Cumberland. The event is expected to draw competitors from 48 states for a week of competition, community and unforgettable lake memories.

What is the High School Fishing World Finals & National Championship?

The 17th Annual High School Fishing World Finals and National Championship is a premier, dual-event tournament held June 23-27, 2026, at Lake Cumberland in Russell Springs, Kentucky. It is one of the largest high school bass fishing tournaments, offering roughly $1 million in scholarships and prizes with no entry fees.

When is the event?

June 23-27, 2026.

Where is the event taking place?

Events and launches will take place across Lake Cumberland, with Russell County serving as a central hub for participants and visitors.

Who is hosting the event?

The tournament is hosted by Student Angler Federation and The Bass Federation in partnership with the Lake Cumberland Tourist Commission and supported by Team Kentucky.

 

For Participants (Anglers, Coaches, Families)

 

Where do I register?

Register at HighSchoolFishing.org. Registration closes at 5 p.m. CT Friday, June 19, 2026.

Who is eligible to compete? 

Student Anglers Federation high school members worldwide.

Where can I find complete rules and regulations? 

All rules and regulations can be viewed at HighSchoolFishing.org. The rules and regulations define all safety requirements.

Where is/are the launch site(s)? 

Launch sites will be defined, explained in detail and managed at the on-site mandatory meeting. Details will be shared with tournament registrants.  

Where will the weigh-in be held? 

Russell County Jaycees Fairgrounds, 2000 Lakeway Drive, Russell Springs, KY. Weigh-ins will be each day ot the tournament — June 24, 25, 26, 27 beginning at 1:30 pm CT.

Can spectators attend? 

Spectators may attend weigh-ins only at the Russell County Jaycees Fairgrounds. Weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

Where can I find updates during the event?  

Morning take-offs, daily live coverage of weigh-ins and all other tournament updates are available at HighSchoolFishing.org.

Getting Around

 

Is parking available at ramps and event sites?

Yes, but space may be limited during peak times. Plan to arrive early and follow posted signage.

Will there be traffic or delays?

With thousands of visitors expected, traffic is likely to increase, especially near boat ramps and the fairgrounds. Please pay attention to signage and sign up for e-mail/text alerts for updates.

I have an electric vehicle. Are there charging stations in Russell County?

Yes! The Lake Cumberland Tourist Commission in Russell County and Kentucky Utilities Company provide two new high-speed electric vehicle charging stations, located in the commission’s parking area at 650 U.S. 127 in Russell Springs, Ky., near the Cumberland Parkway. Stop by and fully charge your vehicle before hitting the water.

 

Lake & Weather Conditions

 

What are typical lake conditions in late June?

Late June offers warm temperatures and active fishing conditions, but the weather can vary.

Where can I check weather and lake conditions?

We recommend visiting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website for monitoring data on Wolf Creek Dam. While you’re visiting, make sure to visit Wolf Creek Dam, which separates the Cumberland River and Lake Cumberland and is a spectacular spot for photographs. It is one of the largest dams in the United States and offers a recreational area with hiking and biking trails next to the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery.

Nearly 500 high school anglers and their families are expected to attend, which means thousands of visitors and high demand for local products, resources and services.

Will there be road closures or increased congestion?

Yes. Residents should expect increased traffic, particularly near lake access points and near the Russell County Jaycees Fairgrounds.
